Taimiao Art Museum Welcomes Anish Kapoor's First Solo Show in China

On November 10th, Taimiao Art Museum welcomed British artist Anish Kapoor's first solo exhibition in China. Through a series of stainless steel and pigment sculptures, Kapoor initiated an unprecedented dialogue with this magnificent architecture and remarkable history. "Today we came to a 'place of memory'—an ancient temple full of historical memories displaying memory-filled works, which exemplifies an evolution of culture and self-reflection"—Anish Kapoor.

 

Taimiao Art Museum is located in the People's Cultural Palace, east side of Tiananmen Square. The museum—an architecture of the Ming Dynasty—is regarded as the highest achievement of ancient Chinese architecture and holds a high cultural and artistic value in China. On the premises of retaining the ancient architectural characters and historical relics, Studio Zhu-Pei combines the functionalities of the traditional Chinese lecture hall and worker' s cultural services, with the additional exhibition facilities. The exhibition space has a total area of over 6,000 square meters. After three years of design, planning, and renovation, It was officially opened to the public in 2015. The Taimiao Art Museum has become a professional exhibition space where Chinese and foreign cultures are being showcased, promoted, and appreciated.

 

 

 

 

On the second day, CAFA Art Museum hosts an artist talk of Anish Kapoor. As a guest speaker, Zhu Pei was invited to a following panel discussion centered around this exhibition, along with Anish Kapoor and joined by Fan Dian (Dean of CAFA), Zhang Zikang (Director of CAFA Art Museum, Chief Curator of the exhibition), Artist Sui Jianguo, Yue Jieqiong (Director of Taimiao Art Museum, Curator of the exhibition), Artist Yu Hong, Wang Yuyang, and Wang Chunchen.
