Zhu Pei was invited to give a lecture at Yale School of Architecture
On Apr.19st 2018, Mr. Zhu Pei was invited to deliver an academic lecture entitled “Mind Landscapes” at Yale School of Architecture. Based on his design philosophy, the current architectural practice is focused on bringing the natural, Chinese gardens and landscape paintings that are“expecting, residing and roaming”to the contemporary architectural design. The external form of the architecture is no longer served as the focus of design. Instead, it emphasizes the reconstructed buildings are immersed in reality, the inside and outside of roaming, hidden and accessible spatial experiences. Through the analysis of two under construction projects that the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum and the Dali Yang Liping Performing Arts Center, it specifically explained how to explore the natural construction principles behind architecture, and how to find a consanguineous relationship between architecture, regional culture and climate, thereby demonstrating the unique characteristics of architectural design formed in the eastern environment.
